This includes the Tribal Lands of thenorthwestern area of the Lac du Flambeau Band, the Red Cliff Band,the Lac Courte Oreilles Reservation, the Bad River Reservation andthe St. Croix Band in Burnett County. Recreation spots such as theApostle Islands National Lakeshore and Madeline Island.* WHEN...From 6 PM this evening to noon CST Tuesday.* IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 40 below zerocould cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin isexposed to these temperatures. An extended period of freezingtemperatures could cause ruptured water pipes.* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The coldest wind chill values will occur fromlate evening through late morning each day.Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you mustgo outside.To prevent water pipes from freezing; wrap or drain or allow them todrip slowly.Keep pets indoors as much as possible.Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, andunfrozen water.Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensureportable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grillsinside.Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates.In extremely cold conditions, battery power drops. Gasoline anddiesel vehicles take more battery power to start, and electricvehicle driving range is reduced. Your vehicle may struggle to startin these conditions, especially if it is stored outdoors.
