Extreme Cold Watch issued January 18 at 4:25AM EST until January 22 at 12:00PM EST by NWS Blacksburg VA* WHAT...Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 20 below possiblealong and west of the Blue Ridge.* WHERE...Portions of northwest North Carolina, southwest Virginia,and southeast West Virginia.* WHEN...From late Sunday night through Wednesday morning.* IMPACTS...The cold wind chills as low as 15 below zero couldresult in hypothermia or frostbite if precautions are not taken.Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin isexposed to these temperatures. An extended period of freezingtemperatures could cause ruptured water pipes.* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...An extended period of extreme cold possibleMonday through Wednesday, possibly continuing into Thursday.Sunday night and Tuesday night will be the coldest conditions ofthe period.
