In South Carolina, Allendale,Beaufort, Charleston, Coastal Colleton, Coastal Jasper,Dorchester, Hampton, Inland Berkeley, Inland Colleton, InlandJasper, and Tidal Berkeley Counties.* WHEN...From 5 PM this afternoon to noon EST Wednesday.* IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, willlikely become slick and hazardous. Plan on slippery roadconditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesdayevening and Wednesday morning commutes.* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...There is an enhanced risk for sleet occurringalong the lower South Carolina coastal counties, especially inlandof US 17.If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water inyour vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions forthe state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.Persons are urged to stay indoors until conditions improve. If youmust go outside, dress in layers. Several layers of clothes willkeep you warmer than a single heavy coat. Cover exposed skin toreduce your risk of frostbite or hypothermia. Gloves, a scarf, and ahat will keep you from losing your body heat.Persons should consider delaying all travel. If travel is absolutelynecessary, drive with extreme caution. Consider taking a winterstorm kit along with you, including such items as tire chains,booster cables, flashlight, shovel, blankets and extra clothing.Also take water, a first aid kit, and anything else that would helpyou survive in case you become stranded.

Wind chill values can lead tohypothermia with prolonged exposure.* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...This will be an unusually long period ofbitterly cold weather. Daytime highs will only warm into the upper30s to around 40 degrees today and mid to upper 30s Wednesday.Overnight lows will drop into the 20s tonight, then into themiddle teens Wednesday night. Be sure to take protective actionsto prepare both your home and business as well as yourself forthis period of very cold weather.Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, ahat, and gloves.Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensureportable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grillsinside.
