Lake Effect Snow Warning issued December 4 at 4:21AM EST until December 6 at 8:00PM EST by NWS State College PAA complex storm system will cause light snow later today and duringthe first part of the night. Stronger snow showers and some heavysqualls are expected in the second half of the night. Then, lakeeffect snow bands will kick in on Thursday. A break in snowfallaccumulations could occur Thursday morning for areas south ofInterstate 80, but the snow will pick back up again later in theday. The lake effect will continue through Friday night across forthe northern Alleghenies.* WHAT...Heavy lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulationsbetween 6 and 15 inches. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.* WHERE...Cameron, Elk, McKean, Potter, and Warren Counties.* WHEN...From 4 PM this afternoon to 8 PM EST Friday.* IMPACTS...Whiteout conditions are expected at times and will maketravel difficult and treacherous. The strong winds combined withthe weight of snow on tree limbs may down power lines and couldcause sporadic power outages. Areas of blowing snow couldsignificantly reduce visibility. Gusty winds could bring down treebranches.If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water inyour vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions forthe state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.Persons should consider delaying all travel. If travel is absolutelynecessary, drive with extreme caution. Consider taking a winterstorm kit along with you, including such items as tire chains,booster cables, flashlight, shovel, blankets and extra clothing.Also take water, a first aid kit, and anything else that would helpyou survive in case you become stranded.During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locallyheavy snow to dry weather just a few miles away. Visibilities canalso vary greatly. Be prepared for rapid changes in weather,visibility, and road conditions.
