Lakeshore Flood Warning issued January 27 at 7:54PM EST until January 28 at 4:00AM EST by NWS Buffalo NY* WHAT...Significant lakeshore flooding.* WHERE...Erie and Chautauqua counties.* WHEN...Until 4 AM EST Tuesday.* IMPACTS...The rapid rise in water levels at the eastern end ofLake Erie will result in lakeshore flooding along the Lake Erieshore. Flooding is likely along Route 5 in Hamburg, BuffaloHarbor and Canalside, Dunkirk Harbor, and other flood pronelocations. Lake ice may also get shoved onshore and causeproperty damage.A Lakeshore Flood Warning means lakeshore flooding is occurring,is imminent, or is expected to occur. For your safety, stay offbreakwaters, piers, rock outcroppings and beaches! Waves areoften larger than they appear and can easily wash you away.Expect significant beach erosion and debris, local road closuresand extremely dangerous boating conditions.

It ispossible that ice will be pushed onshore along the immediate LakeErie shoreline. In addition, ice flows down the Niagara River mayresult in an ice jam. Special Weather Statement issued January 27 at 10:36PM EST by NWS Buffalo NYSnow is starting across Western New York, and the snow combined withstrong winds gusting to 60 mph will result in areas of blowing anddrifting snow which will lower visibility below a half mile at times.The snow and blowing snow will make travel very difficult overnight,especially in open areas where snow will tend to drift more.Locations impacted include...Buffalo, Rochester, Greece, Cheektowaga, Irondequoit, Niagara Falls,West Seneca, North Tonawanda, Clarence, Chili, Lockport, Lackawanna,Batavia, Kenmore, Depew, Amherst, Tonawanda, Lancaster, Hamburg, andBrockport.This includes the following highways...Interstate 390 between exits 5 and 12.Interstate 90 between exits 46 and 57A.Conditions can deteriorate rapidly in winter weather situations.Avoid unnecessary travel. If you must travel, be prepared for poorvisibility and slow down and allow extra time when traveling.
