Lake Effect Snow Warning issued February 17 at 1:42PM EST until February 19 at 6:00AM EST by NWS Buffalo NY* WHAT...Heavy lake effect snow and blowing snow. Total snowaccumulations of 2 to 3 feet in the most persistent snows. Windsgusting 40 to 50 mph today into tonight will cause near whiteoutconditions at times.* WHERE...Wayne, Northern Cayuga, and Oswego Counties.* WHEN...Until 6 AM EST Wednesday.* IMPACTS...Travel will be very difficult to impossible, especiallythis afternoon and evening. Areas of blowing snow willsignificantly reduce visibility, with near whiteout conditions attimes.Heavy snow will fall in relatively narrow bands. If traveling, beprepared for rapidly changing road conditions and visibilities.Submit snow reports through our website or social media.

For the Cold WeatherAdvisory, bitterly cold wind chills as low as 20 below zeroexpected.* WHERE...Erie, Oswego, Jefferson, Lewis, Genesee, Wyoming,Livingston, Ontario, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and AlleganyCounties. Highest gusts will be along the Lake Ontario shorelineand across higher elevations.* WHEN...For the Wind Advisory, until 6 PM EST this evening. For theCold Weather Advisory, from 10 PM this evening to 10 AM ESTTuesday.* IMPACTS...Gusty winds cause areas of blowing and drifting snow.Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.Bitterly cold wind chills as low as 25 below zero will causefrostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a highprofile vehicle. Areas of blowing snow will cause poor travelconditions, especially near open fields.This is a potentially hazardous situation to be outdoors. If youmust be outside, be sure to cover all exposed skin. Special Weather Statement issued February 17 at 2:02PM EST by NWS Buffalo NYHAZARDS...A lake effect snow band which can rapidly reducevisibility to near zero. This lake effect snow band is producingextremely heavy snow at the rate of 3 inches per hour. In addition,gusty winds will produce areas of blowing snow and localizedwhiteout conditions even outside of this intense band.LOCATION AND MOVEMENT...At 200 PM EST, the lake effect band waslocated 8 miles southwest of Redfield, or 12 miles northwest ofCamden moving north at 5 MPH. The band will reach about as far northas Sandy CReek and Port Leyden thorugh 400 PM EST.LOCATIONS IMPACTED INCLUDE...Oswego, Sandy Island Beach State Park, Pulaski, Central Square,Redfield, Selkirk Shores State Park, Mexico Point State Park, NineMile Point, Hastings, Scriba, Richland, Constantia, West Monroe,Palermo, New Haven, Mexico, Williamstown, Orwell, Sandy Creek, andCleveland.This includes Interstate 81 between exits 32 and 37.SAFETY INFO...The snow will accumulate so rapidly that it will beextremely dangerous to impossible to travel through this band.Snowfall rates are so heavy, that it will be difficult to keep theroads clear.
