For the Extreme Cold Watch, dangerously coldwind chills as low as 24 below zero possible.* WHERE...Portions of east central Colorado, northwest and westcentral Kansas, and southwest Nebraska.* WHEN...For the Cold Weather Advisory, until 11 AM MST /noon CST/this morning. For the Extreme Cold Watch, from this afternoonthrough Tuesday morning.* IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 25 below zerocould cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.Frostbite and hypothermia may occur if unprotected skin is exposedto these temperatures. Wind chill values may fall to extremelydangerous levels. An extended period of freezing temperaturescould cause ruptured water pipes. Frostbite and hypothermia willoccur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. Windchill values can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure.To prevent water pipes from freezing; insulate or drain or allowthem to drip slowly.Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates.Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, andunfrozen water.Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensureportable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grillsinside.Use caution while traveling outside. Make sure all skin is covered,including wearing a hat and gloves. Wear multiple layers ofclothing, including a waterproof layer if needed.Keep pets indoors as much as possible.
