Major saltwater floodingof 1 to 3 feet above ground level at the lowest elevation areasand shoreline is expected from early Thursday morning throughlate Thursday evening, with strong southeast to south windsimpacting the Florida Keys, as Hurricane Helene moves northwardthrough the eastern Gulf of Mexico and intensifies into a majorhurricane.* WHERE...The Florida Keys.* WHEN...Through late Thursday evening.* IMPACTS...Minor saltwater flooding of low elevation streets andlots is likely through the early overnight hours, with littlerelief during low tide. Some storm drains will overflow, andsome seawalls and docks will be overtopped. Boaters can expectless clearance under fixed bridges. Motorists should rememberthat persistent puddles around the times of high tide are almostcertain to contain a mix of saltwater. For early Thursdaymorning through late Thursday evening, storm surge flooding willcause numerous roads to be closed. Low lying property includinghomes, businesses, and some critical infrastructure will beinundated. Flooding may extend over streets and low elevationproperties a few blocks from the shoreline. Some shorelineerosion will occur.Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. Iftravel is required, do not drive around barricades or throughwater of unknown depth.
