Large waves can sweep across the beachwithout warning, pulling people into the sea from rocks, jettiesand beaches. Sudden immersion in cold water can result in coldwater shock even for the most experienced swimmers. Cold watershock can result in dramatic changes in breathing, heart rateand blood pressure, greatly increasing the risk of drowning inrough open waters.Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due todangerous surf conditions.
