Coastal Flood Advisory issued September 14 at 3:30PM AKDT until September 16 at 1:00AM AKDT by NWS Anchorage AK* LOCATION...Along the Kuskokwim Delta coast from the mouth ofthe Kuskokwim River to Newtok, including the communities ofKongiganak, Kwigillingok, Kipnuk, Tununak, and Newtok.* COASTAL FLOODING...Water levels as high as 2 to 5 feet abovenormal highest tide around time of high tides on Saturday andSunday.* TIMING...The exact timing of highest water levels and floodpotential will coincide with high tides, which will vary fromlocation to location, but for most locations will be mid morningthrough early afternoon. For Newtok, where tidal cycles areinfluenced by the Ninglick River, there will be a peak in waterlevels midday Sunday, then another late Sunday evening into theovernight hours.* IMPACTS...Coastal erosion and minor flooding of low lying areas.* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Water levels for most areas peaked latethis morning with high tide. A higher peak is expected forSunday morning's high tide, especially for west coastcommunities such as Kipnuk and Newtok. Winds will strengthenthis evening, with southwesterly gusts as high as 45 mphexpected overnight tonight through Sunday morning. Winds willdiminish and water levels will fall on Monday.A coastal flood advisory indicates that onshore winds and tideswill combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.Take action to protect property by moving items to higher groundand away from water.
