High Surf Advisory issued September 17 at 4:55AM AKDT until September 18 at 10:00AM AKDT by NWS Anchorage AK* LOCATION...Primarily for the southern Bristol Bay coastlinefrom the mouth of the Kvichak River to Port Heiden, includingthe communities of Naknek, Egegik, and Pilot Point. High surfis possible but less likely from the mouth of the KvichakRiver west to Cape Newenham.* WINDS AND WAVES...Southwesterly winds of 30 to 40 mph areexpected, with gusts as high as 50 to 65 mph. Waves up to 10feet or more breaking on the shoreline.* TIMING...Strong southwesterly winds peak between about 10pmTuesday and 6am Wednesday, around the same time as high tide.The worst conditions will occur around or shortly aftermidnight, then improve through the early morning hours onWednesday.* IMPACTS...Winds and waves are forecast to bring about a 4 to 6ft surge on top of the high tide, which may inundate or moveproperty along the shoreline. Coastal erosion during high tideis likely.* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...While the strongest winds are expectedfor the southern Bristol Bay coastline, a long duration ofsouth to southwesterly winds from Tuesday morning throughevening could also lead to high surf along the northernBristol Bay coastline, including the communities of Dillinghamand Togiak.A high surf advisory means that high surf has the potential forcoastal erosion along the shoreline. Move items away from thecoastline as they may be moved or damaged by waves. Use cautionif you live, or plan to travel, along the coastline during thistime.
