Severe Thunderstorm WatchArea:NorthlandForecast:A band of heavy rain with embedded thunderstorms is expected to move southwards over Northland overnight and on Tuesday morning. An Orange Heavy Rain Warning is currently in force for Northland for broad-scale heavy rain, however embedded within the rain-band severe thunderstorms may also produce intense localised rainfall of 25-60 mm/h (or possibly more) in some places between 11pm tonight (Monday) and 8am Tuesday. Rainfall of this intensity will cause surface and/or flash flooding, especially about low-lying areas such as streams, rivers or narrow valleys, and may also lead to slips. Driving conditions will also be hazardous with surface flooding and poor visibility in heavy rain. The thunderstorm risk eases from the north during the morning, but further isolated thunderstorms are possible about southern and western Northland in the afternoon.Impact:Note: A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favourable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.
