Water levels may exceed the highest tide of the year by around a metre between the Gold Coast and Qld/NSW border on the overnight high tide tonight and overnight Thursday into early Friday morning, and by half a metre for remaining coasts south of Double Island Point, including parts of the Moreton Bay coast. This could lead to flooding of the foreshore and coastal erosion. Water levels may also exceed the highest tide of the year by less than half a metre between Double Island Point and Sandy Cape overnight tonight. There is a possibility that DANGEROUSLY HIGH TIDES could cause further coastal erosion and some inundation of low-lying areas near exposed beaches on the Gold Coast, including to the NSW/Qld border and the Tweed Coast, overnight Thursday into early Friday morning. This is dependent on how Alfred behaves as it approaches the coast. Damaging surf conditions leading to significant beach erosion are likely between Sandy Cape and Coolangatta with VERY HEAVY SURF currently occurring south of Double Island Point. These conditions are expected to continue tonight and Thursday. These very large and powerful waves are likely to continue increasing during Thursday afternoon as Alfred moves closer to the coast, with the largest waves expected along the Gold Coast. Beach conditions in these areas are VERY DANGEROUS and people should stay well away from the surf and surf exposed areas. Damaging surf conditions may start to ease between Sandy Cape and Double Island Point from late Thursday. A Tropical Cyclone Advice and Forecast Track Map is current for Tropical Cyclone Alfred. A Severe Weather Warning is current for Southeast Coast, Wide Bay and Burnett and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts. A separate Hazardous Surf Warning is also current. A Flood Watch is current for South East Queensland.
