HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is expected to develop across the South East coast tonight, becoming more widespread over the warning area on Sunday as the system moves inland, including Brisbane, Ipswich, the Sunshine Coast and Gympie. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 80 and 130 mm are likely today and into Sunday morning. 24-hourly totals between 120 and 200 mm are likely. Locally INTENSE RAINFALL which may lead to DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODING may develop tonight and during Sunday in bands of showers and thunderstorms wrapping around the eastern and southern side of the system over the South East Coast and southern Wide Bay and Burnett which may include Brisbane, Ipswich and the Sunshine Coast. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 150 and 210 mm and 24-hourly totals between 300 and 400 mm are possible. All rainfall numbers are dependent on the movement and position of the system. If intense rainfall is detected, a separate Detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued. DAMAGING WINDS averaging 70 to 80 km/h with peak gusts around 110 km/h are occurring about Moreton Bay and will likely remain about the southern coastal fringe and the Moreton Bay islands tonight, with an expectation to ease by Sunday morning as the low moves onshore. DAMAGING WIND GUSTS with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h are possible tonight over the South East Coast, southern Wide Bay and Burnett and eastern Darling Downs and Granite Belt. Sustained 82 km/h winds were recorded at Redcliffe at 9:30 pm. 104 km/h wind gust was recorded at Redcliffe at 9:24 pm. 119 mm was recorded at Carbrook in the 3 hours to 2:00 am. 142 mm was recorded at Upper Springbrook in the 4 hours to 1:20 am. Sustained 65 to 70 km/h winds have been recorded at Gold Coast Seaway between 12:30 am and continue to 4:30 pm. Sustained 65 km/h winds were recorded at Brisbane Airport at 11:20 pm Friday. 93 km/h wind gust was recorded at Brisbane Airport at 11:16 pm Friday.Severe Weather Warningfor HEAVY, LOCALLY INTENSE RAINFALL and DAMAGING WINDSIssued at 10:59 pm Saturday, 8 March 2025.Emergency services advise people to: * If you have children make sure they are with you or an adult you trust. * Park your car undercover away from trees. * Close doors and windows. * Keep asthma medications close by. VERY HEAVY SURF which may lead to localised damage and severe coastal erosion is occurring between Cape Moreton and Coolangatta. These very large and powerful waves are expected to persist tonight. Damaging surf conditions are also forecast to now commence redeveloping along remaining coasts south of Noosa Heads as Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred moves further inland and the wave direction turns northeasterly. Beach conditions in these areas are VERY DANGEROUS and people should stay well away from the surf and surf exposed areas. Damaging surf conditions are expected to weaken by late Sunday morning. A Tropical Cyclone Forecast Track Map is current for Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred. A Severe Weather Warning is current for Southeast Coast, Wide Bay and Burnett, and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts. A separate Hazardous Surf Warning is also current. Significant wave heights of around 5 metres are still being observed at the Tweed offshore wave buoy, and greater than 4 metres at the Brisbane and Tweed Heads wave buoys. The largest significant wave height recorded was 7.9 metres at the Tweed Offshore wave buoy early Friday morning.
