DAMAGING SOUTH TO SOUTHEASTERLY WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h are expected to continue along the north coast, with peak gusts of around 90 km/h expected in these coastal parts as well as along the Border Ranges. Winds are expected to ease below warning thresholds during this evening. Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to accompany this system, and separate Severe Thunderstorm Warnings for Heavy Rainfall may be issued if necessary. VERY HEAVY SURF which may lead to localised damage and coastal erosion is possible along Byron Bay and Coffs coasts, between Point Danger and Smoky Cape for the rest of today. These conditions are forecast to ease late tonight or early tomorrow morning. A Hazardous Surf Warning is also current for Byron and Coffs Coasts for today and tomorrow. Beach conditions in these areas could be dangerous and people should stay well away from the surf and surf exposed areas. Locations which may be affected include Coffs Harbour, Byron Bay, Ballina, Yamba, Woolgoolga and Sawtell.
