Flood Warning issued September 27 at 2:36PM EDT until September 27 at 8:30PM EDT by NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.* WHERE...A portion of western North Carolina, including thefollowing counties, Avery and Mitchell.* WHEN...Until 830 PM EDT.* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lyingand flood-prone locations is occurring. Numerous roads remainclosed due to flooding. Streams continue to rise due to excessrunoff from earlier rainfall. Low-water crossings are inundatedwith water and may not be passable.* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...- At 231 PM EDT, emergency management reported widespreadflooding in the warned area due to heavy rainfall. Most flooddeaths occur in vehicles.If you drive into water and need to be rescued, personnel may not beable to reach you due to all the flooding and downed trees.Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can becomeunstable and unsafe.Heavy rain is significantly increasing the risk of landslides,especially in areas where slides have occurred in the past. Slidescan destroy single homes and other structures and large sections ofroads. If you are in the warned area, you should not travel, exceptto move away from flash flood or landslide dangers. If you are inthe vicinity of a stream near the heavy rainfall, especially on amountainside, or at the base of a mountain or in a cove, moveimmediately to a safer location.
