For the Extreme Cold Warning,dangerously cold wind chills as low as 43 below zero expected.* WHERE...Crow Wing, Northern Aitkin, South Aitkin, Koochiching,North Cass, North Itasca, South Cass, South Itasca, Carlton andSouth St. Louis, Central St. Louis, North St. Louis, and NorthernCook and Lake Counties. This includes the Tribal Lands of the Fonddu Lac Band, the Mille Lacs Band, Big Sandy Lake and, East Lakeareas and the Bois Forte Band, Nett Lake, Deer Creek and, LakeVermilion areas. Recreation spots such as Voyageurs National Park.The entire Boundary Waters is also included.* WHEN...For the Cold Weather Advisory, until 6 PM CST Saturday. Forthe Extreme Cold Warning, from 6 PM Saturday to noon CST Tuesday.* IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 45 below zerocould cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin isexposed to these temperatures. An extended period of freezingtemperatures could cause ruptured water pipes.Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you mustgo outside.To prevent water pipes from freezing; wrap or drain or allow them todrip slowly.Keep pets indoors as much as possible.Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, andunfrozen water.Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensureportable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grillsinside.Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates.In extremely cold conditions, battery power drops. Gasoline anddiesel vehicles take more battery power to start, and electricvehicle driving range is reduced. Your vehicle may struggle to startin these conditions, especially if it is stored outdoors.
