For the Extreme Cold Watch, dangerously cold windchills of 20 below zero to 30 below zero.* WHERE...Portions of east central Colorado, northwest and westcentral Kansas, and southwest Nebraska.* WHEN...For the Cold Weather Advisory, until 5 PM MST /6 PM CST/this afternoon. For the Extreme Cold Watch, from 5 PM MST /6 PMCST/ this afternoon through Tuesday morning.* IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 25 below zerocould cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.Frostbite and hypothermia may occur if unprotected skin is exposedto these temperatures. Wind chill values may fall to extremelydangerous levels. An extended period of freezing temperaturescould cause ruptured water pipes. Frostbite and hypothermia willoccur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. Windchill values can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure.* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The Cold Weather Advisory has been extendedin time due to the potential for wind chills remaining around 15below or less. Will continue to monitor for any additional changesthrough the day.To prevent water pipes from freezing; insulate or drain or allowthem to drip slowly.Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates.Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, andunfrozen water.Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors.
