Fire Weather Watch issued January 3 at 2:19PM PST until January 10 at 6:00PM PST by NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM LATE TUESDAY MORNINGTHROUGH FRIDAY AFTERNOON FOR POTENTIAL STRONG NORTH TO NORTHEASTWINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR MUCH OF LOS ANGELESAND VENTURA COUNTIES....While there is still some uncertainty in next week'swind event, the most likely outcome is for strong north tonortheast winds with an extended period of Red Flag conditions.While the longer duration of strong winds is expected to befocused across Los Angeles and Ventura counties, there is a 20-30percent chance of shorter duration Red Flag conditions acrossportions of Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties. Due tothe potential for damaging winds, there will be an increased riskfor downed trees and powerlines, as well as power outages.The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued aFire Weather Watch for potential strong north to northeast windsand low relative humidity, which is in effect from late Tuesdaymorning through Friday afternoon.* WINDS...Most Likely Outcome--Strong north to northeast windevent Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday evening with sustainedwinds of 35 to 50 mph with damaging wind gusts of 55 to 80 mph.Strongest winds likely in the mountains, foothills, and valleys.Moderate north to northeast winds will likely persist Thursdayinto Friday.* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...Most Likely Outcome--Humidities likelyfalling to between 20 and 30 percent in many areas Tuesdayafternoon into night, then widespread 10 percent or lessWednesday into Friday.* IMPACTS...If fire ignition occurs, conditions are favorable forrapid fire spread and extreme fire behavior which would threatenlife and property. There will be the potential for downed treesand powerlines, as well as power outages.* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...While the most likely outcome is for astrong north to northeast wind event (60% chance), there isstill a 30% chance of a moderate event, and a 10% chance of aweak event.A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditionsare likely to occur in the coming days. The No-Burn rulebans burning wood, pellets, and manufactured fire logs in any indooror outdoor wood-burning device.* WHERE...The South Coast Air Basin, which includes Orange Countyand non-desert portions of Los Angeles, Riverside, and SanBernardino counties. No-Burn Day alerts do not apply to areas above3,000 feet in elevation, the Coachella Valley, or the High Desert.Homes that rely on wood as a sole source of heat, low-incomehouseholds and those without natural gas service also are exemptfrom the requirement.* WHEN...until Friday evening at 11:59 PM.* IMPACTS...Particles in smoke can get deep into the lungs and causehealth problems (including asthma attacks), increases in emergencyroom visits, and hospitalizations. No-Burn Days are needed toprotect public health when fine particle pollution levels areexpected to be high anywhere in the South Coast Air Basin.
