Advarsler

Hydrologic Outlook issued November 21 at 11:41AM AKST by NWS Anchorage AKESFAFCRecent abnormally cold temperatures have caused many rivers andstreams across the Mat-Su, Anchorage, and Kenai areas to rapidlyfreeze up. This has caused ice dams to form on some waterwaysleading to rising water levels with some localized overflowflooding occurring in vicinity of ice dams. Currently, overflowfrom Chester Creek has inundated the Chester Creek trail tunnelunder Arctic Blvd. Anchor ice build up and ice dams on PetersCreek, Ship Creek, Campbell Creek, Little Susitna River, andWillow Creek are leading to near bankfull conditions. Waterlevels will continue to fluctuate until the cold temperaturesconclude or when ice cover is more complete upstream.Additionally, above freezing temperatures aloft forecast throughSaturday are aiding in snowmelt at higher elevations, increasingwater levels downstream. For additional information and the latest river forecasts, pleasevisit: https://www.weather.gov/aprfc/.
