There was an extreme amount of precipitation in the central part of Latvia. The intense and long-lasting rainfall has already caused floods in the lower areas and urban areas, the river floodplains and the lower areas along their banks have also started to flood. The fastest rise of the water level has been in the rivers of the Lielupe basin. Today, precipitation will continue in the central and eastern regions, a faster rise of the water level will also start in the rivers of the Salaca, Gauja and Daugava basins. In the following days, the water level will rise and more areas near water bodies will be flooded.
