special weather statement in effectPotential wintry weather this weekend.Locations: Avalon Peninsula.Time span: overnight Saturday night through Sunday morning.Remarks: Remarks: The first accumulating snowfall of the season is expected, especially inland and over higher terrain. However, parts of the coast may receive only rain. In addition, strong northerly winds will develop Saturday night, with gusts likely near 80 km/h or higher for most areas. A wind warning has been already been issued for some coastal areas, which may be extended into other areas in subsequent forecasts. In addition, strong winds, large waves, and storm surge will combine to cause higher than normal water levels for north-facing communities of Trinity Bay and Conception Bay, especially around high tide on Saturday night and again during the day on Sunday. Water levels may near the top or splash over any low lying coastal infrastructure. There remains some uncertainty with regards to the timing and accumulations associated with this system. Any small shift in the track of the low may push higher or lower amounts into some areas. Furthermore, small changes in temperature could affect how well the snow accumulates.###Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to [email protected] or tweet reports using #NLwx.
