Water levels on the high tide could exceed the highest tide of the year by around half a metre on Sunday between Sandy Cape to Coolangatta. This could lead to minor flooding of the foreshore and coastal erosion. Water levels on the Monday morning high tide may exceed the highest tide of the year by less than half a metre and ease further into Tuesday but may start to increase again during the week depending on the movement of Tropical Cyclone Alfred. Damaging surf conditions leading to significant beach erosion are likely between Sandy Cape and Maroochydore, extending south to Gold Coast waters during the day. Damaging surf conditions are also likely to continue on Monday between Sandy Cape and Coolangatta, and may also continue throughout most of next week depending on the movement of Tropical Cyclone Alfred. A Hazardous Surf Warning is also current for Capricornia, K'gari, Sunshine and Gold Coast waters http://www.bom.gov.au/qld/warnings/hazardoussurf.shtml Locations which may be affected include Gold Coast, Maroochydore, Coolangatta, Moreton Island, North Stradbroke Island, Noosa Heads, Rainbow Beach, and K'gari. A significant wave height of 4.89m and maximum wave height of 14.68m was recorded at 4:00am AEST on Sunday the 2nd March at the Wide Bay wave buoy.Coastal Hazard Warningfor ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES and DAMAGING SURFIssued at 11:00 am Sunday, 2 March 2025.Emergency services advise people to: * Know your limitations around beaches, tidal rivers and creeks. Adhere to warning from lifesavers and lifeguards . * If you have a boat or water craft, haul out if possible or check your moorings are secure. * If you have children make sure they are within arm's reach around the water.The next Coastal Hazard Warning will be issued by 5:00 pm AEST Sunday.Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and emergency services would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
